De La Salle Brothers join ROE

At the Conference of Religious in England and Wales annual conference 2018 the idea was introduced of establishing an association of the trustees of religious order schools and sixth form colleges.

This association would support the work of those religious orders who are the trustees of schools or colleges and who continue to exercise active governance responsibilities. It would enable congregations to explore new ways of working together and to develop links that would support the sharing of resources and collaborative ventures. It would also give religious order trustees a voice with key national bodies such as Diocesan Schools Commissions and the Catholic Education Service.

In the following year a group representing twenty congregations, including the De La Salle Brothers in GB, worked to make this a reality and in July 2019 the new National Association of Religious Orders in Education who are trustees or founders of schools and colleges (ROE) was launched with the support of Archbishop McMahon, then Chair of the Bishops’ Conference Education Commission, Bishop Marcus Stock, who was appointed as the next Chair, and Paul Barber, the Director of the Catholic Education Service.

ROE’s vision is to see 21st Century Catholic education strengthened and enhanced by the distinctive charisms of religious orders continuing to animate and enrich the schools and colleges of which they are the trustees or founders.
