Basildon students recognised at Awards ceremonies

Students at De La Salle Basildon have been recognised for their efforts on a number of fronts as they made their mark in the Lasallian Awards and the Brentwood Diocese Citizenship Awards.

Brentwood Diocese Citizenship Awards

The Brentwood Diocesan Citizenship Awards was inspired by Lord David Alton who wrote that 'the Gospel of Jesus Christ requires us to "love our neighbour as ourselves" and that is at the heart of the Christian interpretation of citizenship'.

Roman and Rebecca

Primary and Secondary schools in Brentwood Diocese nominate pupils who have served the Church and their community or overcome some personal challenge or loss in their lives or family. The word "inspiring" can be used too casually but in the case of these children and young men and women it is entirely appropriate. They are inspirational as are their families and the schools that nurture and support them.

We nominated our Head Boy Roman and Head Girl Rebecca

Rebecca

Rebecca is a warm kind-hearted young girl at De La Salle, Basildon. She is also Head Girl. Her kindness knows no bounds. She is a very thoughtful young girl and forever looking out and after others before herself. Outside of School, she helps teach the faith to younger children at her Church and off her own back raises/raised money for local charities. Rebecca has excellent leadership and along with the Head Boy organises the student leadership team at various functions. Rebecca is part of the Chaplaincy Team among her other duties and helps out at Masses and Assemblies and is a Lasallian Gold Award Holder.

Roman

Roman is a vibrant and energetic young man at De La Salle, Basildon. He also Head Boy. Nothing is ever too much trouble. He is always willing to contribute to the community by energising other students and his peers in the Catholic Life of the School. Outside of School, Roman gives of his time as an Altar Server. He looks to include everyone as much as he can. His leadership skills are impeccable and along with the Head Girl organises the Student Leadership team at various functions. He is a member of our Chaplaincy team among his other duties and is a Lasallian Gold Award holder.

Both students embody perfectly the Lasallian Values of the School and are exemplary citizens of our school; community at large and worthy recipients of this award and testament to being the best people they can be.

They were presented with award at a special ceremony by Bishop Alan Williams sm at Brentwood Cathedral.

Lasallian Awards

Since its inception DLS Basildon have taken the Lasallian Awards to our hearts and have showcased what it is to be Lasallian and how in everyday life we live out the Lasalllian values.

Finally, this year, we had a total 262 entries across Bronze Silver and Gold but at the time we only entered 225 in the district draw.

After not winning anything in the District draw the previous year, it was decided we would have our own draw to celebrate the work and effort that had gone in to achieve their level. So this year we put on offer an Ipad for Gold and an Amazon Kindle Fire for Bronze and Silver.

Congratulations to Oliver in Year 10 who was drawn out of the hat for the Ipad for Gold; Jai  in Year 8 who won the Silver award; Melissa in Year 7 who won the Bronze.

Well done to them and to all our young people.
