Celebrations to mark 120 years of De La Salle Brothers in Malta
As part of the 120th Anniversary of the arrival of the Brothers of De La Salle in Malta, the Lasallian District of Ireland, Great Britain and Malta is organising a number of events to mark this occasion.
The main celebration will take place on Founder’s Day, Monday 15th May, when we will be meeting as one Lasallian staff from both our colleges. The programme will start with a reflection by David Wells on our role as Lasallian educators building on our past but looking at the future as we face a rapidly changing world.
We will then have a short celebration ceremony when we will honour and thank all the present De La Salle Brothers in Malta for their long years of selfless dedication and commitment to providing a human and Christian education to so many students. The event will close with a reception in the college grounds for all staff members.
As we celebrate the many years of hard work, dedication and vocation of so many Brothers and lay partners who offer a human and Christian education to thousands of students, we also feel it is important to reflect on our present and future work as Christian educators, working in a diverse and rapidly changing reality.
We also feel that it would be very valuable to reflect together with all other colleagues working within the Church School sector as we look towards the future pathways of Catholic education in our country.
We are therefore organising two events to do so:
(1) A Seminar for Teachers of Religion working in all Church Schools in Malta and Gozo. The Seminar will be held on Tuesday 16th May 2023 at the Palace Hotel, Sliema from 8.30 a.m. – 2p.m including a networking lunch for participants. To help facilitate this session, we have invited David Wells to lead the seminar and facilitate a discussion, sharing and reflection about the role of teachers of Religion in today’s world. Further details about David Wells and the seminar may be found here.
(2) A Seminar for leaders of Catholic Education. The Seminar will be held on Wednesday 17th May 2023 at the Palace Hotel, Sliema from 8.30 a.m. – 2p.m including a networking lunch for participants. David Wells will also be facilitating this seminar. We have also invited a panel of stakeholders to give their reactions and responses to David Well’s input and to facilitate a wider discussion with the whole audience. Further details about David Wells and the seminar may be found here.
We would be delighted if you, or your representative, as well as the teachers of Religion in your school would join us for these events and look forward to meeting on these days.
Registration may be done through the links found on the leaflets. We look forward to two enriching days of reflection, discussion and sharing of experiences to help each other grow in our vocation to serve the students in our care.
