Celebration of Life at St Benild School, Malta

Many interesting Activities were held at St. Benild School, Malta in the month of November with students and staff benefitting from some wonderful experiences, including ‘A Celebration of Life’.

A Celebration of LIFE

At St. Benild School we marked the Feast of All Souls, which is traditionally celebrated on November 2nd, through a very meaningful activity. At the end of October, we invited families to decorate an empty box and to choose one person (a relative or family friend) who passed away. Objects were gathered at home which reminded the family of this person. This memory box was brought to school and each child shared his memories and stories of the selected loved one.

Following this, parents were invited to attend a Mass at our local Parish Church during which our eldest boys presented the memory box on the altar for blessing. This was a sterling opportunity for our Lasallian Community to come together so as to celebrate the gift of life and treasure the memory of our loved ones.

Music and Dance colour our Life during Children's Day / Anti-bullying Week

Children's day and Anti-bullying week were celebrated in style, through various activities at St. Benild School. The week kicked off with an exciting drum workshop during which children and adults alike participated using instruments made out of reused material. The orchestrated sound of Bongos/ Drums and Shakers filled in the air.

So as to further celebrate all these initiatives, on a different day, children came to school wearing a wide ORANGE ribbon around the wrists.  This is the colour nationally chosen for the anti-bullying campaign. Moreover, the children  came to school in a football gear.  At the end of the day, the children danced along to World Cup songs during a Zumba Kids Session.

During this week we surely witnessed OUR HEARTS BEATING FOR EVERYONE!

Morning Concert in honour of St. Cecilia

We also celebrated St. Cecilia, the Patron Saint of all Musicians, through a morning concert held in our school hall. We  encouraged all our pupils, who play an instrument, to perform a piece and/or talk about their instrument or to dance or sing.

Moreover, there was also an open invitation to our dear parents and relatives to perform in our St. Ceclia Morning concert.  A certificate of participation was awarded to all those who took part in the concert.

Our programme was ever so varied and interesting! Such concerts give our pupils the possibility to perform infront of an audience. It surely boosts their self confidence and makes them realise that talents are to be shared with the community! Moreover, it encourages other fellow pupils to start learning an instrument.

Feast of St. Martin: Maltese Traditions at their Best

On Friday November 11th, after watching an assembly about St. Martin which was put up by one of our Grade 2 classes, each child had the  opportunity to fill in his Borża ta’ San Martin. This cloth bag consisted of fruit, a sweet bun and a traditional toy. Due to our ‘Whole School Nut-Free policy’, no nuts were included. However, the Grade 1 boys were involved in a counting of picture-nuts activity. Flashcards in Maltese were used to go shopping, in a matching activity for the Grade 2 boys. This aimed at enhancing their literacy skills.

Traditional games related to this feast, were also organised. The children learnt the traditional rhyme, played traditional games, and learn what can be found in the ‘borża’. Our Maltese Folklore is truly at heart at St. Benild School.
