Br Armin’s visit highlights our passion for the Lasallian Mission
The success of events to celebrate the visit of Brother Superior General Armin Luistro has once again highlighted the passion that exists in our District for the Lasallian Mission.
Br Armin’s two-week visit to Ireland and Great Britain saw him engage with many groups as he experienced at first hand the diversity and enthusiasm that is key to a thriving Lasallian Family.
The Superior General made the trip along with General Councillors, Brothers Joel Palud and Chris Patino, and throughout the trip his humility and genuine interest in every individual and group was an inspiration to us all.
Over the course of his visit, Br Armin spoke in generous terms about how the Lasallian Mission is being lived and nurtured in the District and how many initiatives could be replicated in other parts of the globe.
He was also happy to share his views and suggestions on how this work in the District could be enhanced in the future.
Br. Armin arrived in Ireland on Sunday October 13th and stayed with the St Benildus Community before calling to the St John’s Centre and the Le Cheile Offices in Dublin the next day, and then travelling to Castletown in the afternoon.
On Tuesday, visited Miguel House Care Community and the Castletown Pastoral Centre, while also meeting with the Irish Brothers.
The Superior General then had the opportunity to connect with Animators and student leaders in Castletown before the start of the District Lasallian Ministry Leaders Conference in the afternoon. Br Armin presented certificates to the various schools that have been successful in securing funding for their particular Lasallian Leaving Fund project.
The conference continued on Thursday and included a keynote address by Br Armin before he departed for St Cassian’s for the official celebrations to mark the retreat centre’s 50th anniversary.
The centre in Kintbury hosted a special three-day retreat for Year 11 and Transition Year students from Great Britain, Malta, Jersey and Ireland. This included an address by Br. Armin and it proved to be a very special and uplifting event for all involved.
After a well-earned rest day on Monday, the Superior General met with each of the District leadership teams on Tuesday in Oxford.
The next stop was St Helens where Br. Armin visited De La Salle School followed by a meeting with the District Council.
Brother Armin concluded his visit by praying with the St John’s Care Community and then have a farewell dinner with them. A key part of his visit involved meeting each Brother and therefore this was a very fitting end to what a very enriching time for all.
The visit concluded on Friday October 25th when Br. Armin travelled back to Rome, but he has already promised to return to the District with plans already in place to visit Malta in the near future.
